In 2010-2011, 69% of 6 to 9 year olds in Canada participated in physical activities organized by their school at least once a week.
62% participated in physical activities organized outside of school with a coach/instructor at least once a week, and 40% participated in physical activities outside of school without a coach/instructor at lease once a week.
These proportions were consistently lower for younger children aged 3 to 5 years. Among that age group 61% participated in physical activities organized by the school at least once a week; 44% participated in organized activities with a coach or instructor outside of school and 33% participated in physical activities outside school without a coach or instructor.
