The youth survey covered First Nations youth 12-17 years old, and therefore represents a large proportion of the school-aged population living on reserve and in northern First Nations communities.

In 2013-2015, 18% of First Nations youth aged 12 to 17 years living on reserve or in northern First Nations communities were working.
Almost half (44%) worked less than 10 hours per week.1
One-quarter of 12 to 14 year olds were working, as were 12% of 15 to 17 year olds.
A further 30% of 15 to 17 year olds were looking for work.
Similar proportions of males and females aged 12 to 17 were working – 17% and 18% respectively.
Males were more likely to be looking for work than were females.
